Full Description

In 2013 trial trenching took place as part of an ongoing programme of archaeological excavation at the site of Damhead Creek 2 Power Station. Out of 13 trenches features were recorded in one. A large ditch orentated from north-west to south-east was recovered with a width of 3.16m and depth of 1.12m. Three small postholes were also observed. There was also three parallel shallow north-west to south-east aligned gullies. Pottery recovered from all three features allows them to be dated from the mid 2nd to 3rd century. Ceramic building material and flint were also recovered, the presence of tessera tegula in the ceramic building material may suggest that a higher status building may be located in the vicinity.
