Full Description

An archaeological evaluation took place at the site of the former Fordwich Garage in 2010 to establish the effect of a proposed development on the archaeology. Layer 127 formed the foundation for a 0.10m thick surface of grey clay silt and compacted flints with the occasional oyster shell and peg-tile inlclusions and spans 17m. It is not datable but could have formed a courtyard or work area associated with the buildings that front onto Water Lane to the west. It is unlikely to be earlier than post-medieval. (1)
