Full Description
An archaeological assessment including a walkover survey took place in Robin's wood in 2014. A number of medival features were observed. A series of wood banks including there associated ditches were identified. They were dug to mark ownership boundaries and to plant on. The wood banks date from when the woodland was enclosed from the open wood pasture commons. They are well preserved in Robin's Wood.
Another form of boundary earthwork forming the perimeter of the wood is a lynchet which is another type of bank. There are several in Robin's wood, a group of three parallel lynchets are the remains of former wood boundaries. Another medieval feature is a bank. (1)
