Full Description

in 2015 an archaeological evaluation was carried out at Tamarisk in association with construction of an extension. A number of post-medieval features were observed, related to the fact the site lies in a previous walled kitchen garden associated with Hothfield place. In trench 1 a broad shallow trench was excavated with brick and coal indicating its date. A construction pit was excavated assumed to be related to a greenhouse known to have occupied the area. 4 walls were also excavated, built of red bricks, a fragment of tobacco pipe and a piece of window glass were found in association with a wall. Another deep pit was also found with sherds of pottery in. A pipe trench containing a line of unglazed red terracotta pipes was found. In trench 2 another pit was observed. The features and structures were all of post-medieval date and related to the kitchen garden present. The finds consisted of amall collections of pottery, window glass, peg-tile, medieval sherds and tobacco pipe. (1)
