Full Description
An archaeological excavation took place in 2007 at Waterbrook Park. Areas of Bronze age activity were identified. A shallow ring ditch, 4m in diameter was excated, spot dating of the pottery and flint recovered suggested a Neolithic date, although the material is possibly redeposited. A single complete circular ring ditch 6.5m in diameter was also excated. It is believed to be a barrow ditch. A cremation deposit contained in a shallow pit was also excavated, the burnt bone has tentativly been identified as animal bone. A possible middle Bronze Age ditch was also excated aligned north-east to south-west. 2 pottery sherd of Middle Bronze Age were reocvered providing the possible date. Several deposits containing cremated human bone were situated in close proximity to these features, they have no dateable aspect but there proximity means they could be potentially bronze age. (1)
