Full Description
An excavation took place on a proposed pipelin from Farningham to Hadlow in 2010. A small Anglo-saxon cemetery was excavted on the route. 16 graves were identified, of which 11 contained human remains and 5 did not. The graves were confines to an area measuring 23m by 19m. 9 were orientated north-south and seven east-wesr. The focus of the cemetry was a large grave contained within a barrow ditch. There was various grave goods excavated, with the grave at the centre of a ring ditch containg a male with a full warriors assemblage inclusing sword, shield, spearheads, silverd drinking horn mounts, a glass vessel and others. There was also undated features present on the site. A sub-circular pit, a short linear feature with associated post goles and another linear feature were excavated, although there were no finds to suggest date or purpose. (1)
