Full Description
An archaeologicla excavation took place in 2009 at Hunter Avenue. A ditch was identified which was a north-south aligned feature that extended beyond the northern and southern limits of excavation. Small assemblages of pottery were produced, five sherds of pottery in an undated, coarse sandy fabric and another similar sherd along with three others suggesting a Late Bronze Age date. Approximately 19m to the west of ditch was an irregular, but roughly linear cut featurethat ran alongside a later ditch. Possibly the earliest activity was a north-south aligned ditch,
located towards the south of the area. To the south it was truncated by a later east-west aligned ditch. Finds included struck flint of Middle Bronze Age or later date, and undated pottery from intervention , and struck flint of Late Mesolithic/Early Neolithic and later prehistoric date from intervention. A stratigraphically early, east-west aligned, possible curvilinear gully was revealed to the east. Towards the northern end of Area B was a sub-circular small pit or posthole was found which contained a single sherd of pottery. (1)
