Full Description
An excavation took place at Pinden Quarry in 2011. 4 sherds of Neolithic pottery were recovered. One was from a tree-throw hole which also contained a large quantity of burnt flint. The second was a denehole, and the three small sherds of pottery were thus almost certainly residual. The largest assemblage of worked flint on the site was recovered from a feature which lay only partially within the excavated area. It is thus unclear whether the feature was a pit or the end of a ditch. The flint has been tentatively dated to the Neolithic. The only indication of activity in the late Neolithic-early Bronze Age was a single small Beaker sherd recovered from a small pit or posthole. (1)
