Full Description
An archaeological keyhole investigation took place at No 7 Stephens Way, as part of an ongoing series of works by Faversham Society Archaeological research Group entitled The Davington Mysteries.
The medieval wall being sought after the property holder had mentionned its possible existence was located in the keyhole trench.
Abutting the wall were a series of infill contexts containing post-medieval artefactual evidence. These filled a possible ditch feature, the function of which was unknown. Two possible interpretations are proposed in the report: the first: that it could be a remnant of a late iron age ditch, and the second: that it could be a post medieval cellar feature. Dating of similar features at nearby excavations suggest the latter interpretation.
A residual mesolihtic flint adze was recovered from a garden type soil context.
