Monument record TR 24 SE 209 - Medieval earthworks, St Radigund's Abbey, Hougham

Summary

A watching brief on the sectionning of medieval earthworks was conducted during the laying of a water mains pipeline at St Radigund's Abbey at Hougham, near Dover, Kent. The earthworks were found to be of simple dump construction with no evidence of any earlier palisade or masonry wall. A previously infilled ditch was found on the northwestern side of the North Bank. Three prehistoric struck flints were recovered from the topsoil between the earthworks.
