Monument record TQ 95 SW 145 - Possible Roman Ditch containing Roman Pottery Sherds and other finds, Groom Way
Summary
During the excavation of a soakaway a V-shaped ditch was uncovered. The ditch contained a number of finds from 1st to 3rd Century mixed together. The finds from within the ditch included Roman pottery sherds, as well as Roman building materials (for example tile and glass fragments). These finds were dated to between the 1st and 3rd Century AD. Other finds included a piece of sarsen stone, perhaps used to sharpen metal knives as a honing stone, an undated suspected bone sewing needle, a hob nail from a Roman shoe and a number oyster shells.
