Full Description
Worked pieces of flint found during metal detecting and walkover surveys. The finds were spread across an area within 160m diameter from the findspot. The worked flint is estimated to be from Mesolithic to Bronze Age, with the majority appearing Bronze Age in nature.
From the report: "The small collection of worked flint consists mostly of waste flake and core material, but several pieces recorded during the walkover and metal detector survey include four scrapers, one of which was made on an earlier trimming flake from a bladelet core. One core fragment is also retouched. It is likely that the assemblage includes flintwork from two chronological phases. The presence of the reworked trimming flake, together with a second flake from a bladelet core, indicates the presence of an early prehistoric component, perhaps Mesolithic or early Neolithic, while the bulk of the group probably belongs to the Early Bronze Age or later. Raw material includes Bullhead flint, as well as a more cherty material. Most pieces are edge damaged, and some unstratified pieces are slightly rolled. A couple of pieces are partially or wholly patinated." (1)
