The report details the results of an archaeological Walkover Survey, Metal Detecting Survey, and Evaluation Trenching carried out on land at Sevington West. Taken from the report: "Wessex Archaeology was commissioned … to undertake a site walkover survey, metal detecting survey and archaeological field evaluation on land at Sevington West, Ashford, Kent centred on National Grid Reference (NGR) 604932 14085. The Site is being considered for future commercial use and will comprise the construction of a number of distribution warehouses, with associated access and landscaping. The walkover survey and metal detecting survey comprised a 12.5% sample of the study area. The archaeological evaluation comprised the mechanical excavation of 101 trenches measuring 30m by 2m, comprising a 2% sample of the area of proposed development. Only a small number of the trenches contained archaeological remains and the majority of those features appeared to be small scale undated field boundaries, drainage ditches or discrete features…The limited quantity of artefacts recovered from the topsoil and subsoil during the metal detecting survey supports the findings of the archaeological evaluation and demonstrates the low level of archaeological activity across the majority of the Site."
