Monument record TR 04 SW 450 - Mid-Late Bronze Age pit and a stone lined drainage ditch, Sevington West

Summary

In 2012 Wessex Archaeology conducted archaeological evaluation trenching on the surrounding site. A total of 101 trenches were excavated, 10 of which contained archaeological remains. During the evaluation trenching, a Bronze Age pit was uncovered containing 24 sherds (195g) of mid-late Bronze Age pottery alongisde a possible quern-stone fragment. The trench, within which the pit was located, also contained 14 pieces of flint (some worked although the numbers were not specified) weighing 91g, and an undated, stone-lined drainage ditch. A nearby trench to the east of this one contained a deep posthole, the fill of which contained a concentration of burnt material. The posthole is undated and contained no archaeological components.
