Full Description

From the report: "Fourteen coins were found. These included half a silver short cross penny, of late 12th or 13th century AD date. The remaining coins consisted of a variety of copper alloy pennies, half-pennies and farthings, all of post-medieval date. Other objects of copper alloy, lead and iron were recovered, mainly during the metal-detector survey. All datable objects are post-medieval.

The copper alloy included two cartridges and a bullet, 25 buttons, nine buckle frames, a boot heel-plate, two small keyhole plates, a teaspoon and a thimble, as well as a variety of tacks, wire and sheet-metal fragments. Two decorative strap or harness fillings, the lid of a small pot or glass vessel (part of a dressing table set, for instance) and an oval brooch setting containing a polished orange agate stone were also found.
The lead predominantly consisted of various strips, sheet fragments and waste material... A conical weight (141g; ON. 37) and part of a pewter tankard rim were also found during the metal detector survey. Other recognisable objects consisted of... five musket balls, a single piece of bird-shot and a bullet.
The iron comprises nails and other structural items, but also included a small socketed tool, perhaps a small mattock, a knife handle and a tanged cutting
tool with a curved blade, probably a small sickle or reaping hook. (1)

NOTE: Not all types of metallic object have been recorded here. All objects were found spread across the site approximatelyin the 530m radius centred on the findspot.
