Full Description

Between 10th and 12th September 2015 an archaeological evaluation took place on land at Halfway Houses Primary School. A total of 7 trenches were excavated, which revealed a single archaeological feature. This feature was a small ditch or gully aligned roughly east-to-west. It had a maximum width of 0.88m and a surviving depth 0.42m with an extended V shaped profile. Cultural material present comprised of a single rounded fragment of burnt flint (weighing 32g), potentially used as a hammer stone prior to burning (further information unavailable). The ditch appears to have been sealed with a natural deposit, leading to the conclusion that this may represent a Prehistoric field boundary or drainage ditch. (1)
