Monument record TQ 65 NE 417 - 17th or 18th Century Well/Soakaway, West Malling Abbey

Summary

During an archaeological evaluation at West Malling Abbey in September-October 2015, five small archaeological test pits were excavated. A well or soakaway was partially uncovered in Test Pit 2 and is probably of 17th/18th-century date. It is certainly associated with the post-Medieval secular/residential use of the abbey site rather than the Medieval abbey. Only the upper part of the structure was exposed, and its full dimensions have not been ascertained at this stage.
