Monument record TQ 76 NW 864 - Early Roman earthen bank, Horsewash Lane, Rochester

Summary

In 2008 an evaluation consisting of 10 trenches took place across the PB site prior to development. Evidence of an Early Roman Earthen bank was uncovered in Trench 2 and possibly in Trench 5. The bank was formed of a series of orange sandy clay and black organic banded deposits. It has been hypothesised that this bank could represent an earlier phase of the Roman city wall.
