Rubble contents of a backfill were noted during excavation of test pits at the former site of the Grenada/ABC Cinema. This rubble backfill is significant as it consisted of large fragments of slag, brick and brick fragment, including some Medieval 'bay bricks', various items of scrap iron, large stone blocks and large fragments of material known to builders as 'bungaroo' (roughly compacted crushed brick and other materials within a concrete matrix). Some of this material may have derived from a Medieval demolition or dump layer. (1)
