Monument record TR 34 SW 1208 - Chalk/Stone Built walls, Russell Street, Dover

In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.

Trench 2 which was located in the area of the former Thompson’s Garage and, in spite of the high degree of modern disturbance, contained evidence for well-preserved potential archaeological deposits in the form of stone, chalk and brick-built structures, including walls and possible floor surfaces, along with possible earth-cut features and soil deposits.

A series of chalk/stone-built walls were located below a relatively undisturbed soil deposit from which pottery datable to late Medieval/early Post-medieval periods was uncovered. (1)
