Full Description
In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.
Trench 3 was located in the area of the former Thompson’s Garage and, in spite of the high degree of modern disturbance, contained evidence for well-preserved potential archaeological deposits in the form of stone, chalk and brick-built structures, including walls and possible floor surfaces, along with possible earth-cut features and soil deposits.
The north end of Trench 3 had been truncated to a depth of at least 2.47m (5.19m OD) below modern ground surface by a post medieval cellar. This feature was, however, not present in any of the other trenches and may represent fairly localised disturbance. (1)
