In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.

Trench 3 was located in the area of the former Thompson’s Garage and, in spite of the high degree of modern disturbance, contained evidence for well-preserved potential archaeological deposits in the form of stone, chalk and brick-built structures, including walls and possible floor surfaces, along with possible earth-cut features and soil deposits.

Two gullies cut a deposit of brown silt clay with occasional chalk, flint and charcoal, at the base of the trench, towards its southern end. Pottery dating to the late Medieval to early post medieval period was located within the fill of these two gullies as well as within the deposit that they cut. (1)
