Full Description

In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.

Trench 8 contained well preserved deposits in the form of chalk-built structure(s), earth-cut features and soil deposits. Two walls located towards the eastern end of the trench probably represent a corner of a chalk-built structure, which, along with soil two soil deposits, were stratigraphically earlier than another structure within this trench which partially overlays this one. It is therefore probable that the structure and the associated soil deposits pre date the modern period. (1)
