Monument record TR 34 SW 1304 - Post medieval brick surface, Russell Street, Dover

Summary

In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent. Trench 1 (of 6) contained a brick surface. It is probable that this feature predates the modern period and constitutes part of a relatively well preserved stratigraphic sequence (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information).

Full Description

In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.

Trench 1: was 9.8m long by 2m wide and contained a number of potentially archaeologically significant features.

A brick surface was located within trench 1, it is probable that this feature predates the modern period and constitutes part of a relatively well preserved stratigraphic sequence. (1)
