Full Description
In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.
Trench 3 which was located in the area of the former Thompson’s Garage had, in spite of the high degree of modern disturbance, evidence for well preserved potential archaeological deposits in the form of stone, chalk and brick-built structures, including walls and possible floor surfaces, along with possible earth-cut features and soil deposits.
A complex sequence of brick and chalk-built walls and surfaces, delimited in plan by two post medieval walls was located in the central portion of the trench. It is likely that most of these features pre-date activity associated with the previous garage and therefore represent early modern and Post-medieval archaeological deposits. (1)
