Full Description

In February and March 2008 Foundations Archaeology undertook a programme of archaeological evaluation on land centred on Russell Street, Dover, Kent (NGR: TR 3211 4135). The project was commissioned by CgMs Consulting Ltd. on behalf of Bond City.

Trench 8 contained well preserved deposits in the form of chalk-built structure(s), earth-cut features and soil deposits. A sub-square, stone-built structure of light grey stones (0.25mX0.25mX0.25m) forming a vertical shaft and incorporating occasional bricks, bonded by grey with white flecks, solid mortar was located towards the eastern end of the trench. It is probable that this structure and the associated soil deposits pre date the modern period. (1)
