Summary

The remains of wooden piles thought to represent groynes or defenses protecting the Dagnam Saltings. Identified first in 1986 and during an assessment of the north Kent coast by Wessex Archaeology in 2002.

Full Description

Vertical Datum: LAT 12-JAN-1988 Three areas of wooden pile stumps protruding from foreshore and which could prove hazardous to small craft, observed 04- AUG-1986. They lie roughly parallel to and about 50m off foreshore along a length of about 400m. (1). Site identified during 2002 survey and comprises extensive remains of linear wooden piles indicating former groynes\defenses protecting Dagnam saltings. The presence of irregular stone blocks strewn along foreshore attest to previous defences (2) and site photographs (3).
