Summary
A watching brief was undertaken on trenches for a major new water pipeline for Dover, part of which was located along York Street and cut both the Saxon Shore fort and the Classis Britannica Fort.  South-west corner bastion of the Saxon Shore fort was located to the north of this area of trenching. (Location accurate to the nearest 2m based on available information).

Full Description
A watching brief was undertaken on trenches for a major new water pipeline for Dover, part of which was located along York Street and cut both the Saxon Shore fort and the Classis Britannica fort. The south-west corner bastion of the Saxon Shore fort was located to the north of this area of trenching. The south west corner bastion was completely removed, this Is a key feature of the fort which has never been fully recorded and has now suffered severe damage. (1)
