Full Description
A watching brief on trenches for a major new water pipeline for Dover. This is the second phase of works (there were three in total). Area 5 includes Russell Street. Beneath Russell Street the pipe trench revealed well stratified post medieval and Medieval deposits consisting of occupation layers, floors and walls. These deposits were very similar in appearance to those recently excavated some 75m to the northeast on the Townwall Street garage site. It is possible that well stratified archaeological sequences extend further along Russell Street. (1)
