Full Description
Comprising ditches [08] and [40], and ditch [06]/[51] in the west and central excavation trenches. Ditches [08] and [40] were orientated on a NNE-SSW alignment, "measured approximately 0.45m in width with an average depth of 0.10m", and dated by early Roman pottery in the fill. The character ofthe feature implies a type of livestock fence or pen". Ditch [06]/[51] was orientated NW-SE and appeared in both west and central excavation trenches, "with a width of 0.84m and 18 depth of 0.50m" in the central trench. The fill contained Early Roman and Early Saxon finds, suggesting that this feature is contemporary with ditches [08] and [40] and a nearby gravel spead (45). An undated pit and post hole were also found at the eastern end of ditch [08]. (1)
