Building record TR 13 NE 283 - Postulated Water House
Summary
Remains of the postulated waterworks were discovered apart from the still standing ‘water house’. It is understood from local knowledge that the small building protects a flight of steps that lead deep underground to the remains of a cistern which caps an underground spring. There were apparently fired clay ground water pipes leading from it to replenish the cistern and provide a water supply for part of Hythe.
