Full Description
A bowling green is noted on the north eastern side of the 'Great Pent' (today known as Wellington Dock) on early post medieval mapping. William Eldred's map, dating to 1641, depicts it as a large fenced green, labelled 'The Bowling Place' opposite the eastern end of Bench Street. The exact date of the construction and demolition of this bowling green is unknown. (1)
