Monument record TR 34 SW 1534 - Three Medieval pits uncovered during excavation in Dover Town centre, 1973

Summary

Three Medieval pits, cutting an earlier Anglo Saxon hut (N1), were located during excavations just to the north of Market Street, Dover, and 3-6m north of the Roman military bath house, in an area previously occupied by derelict houses and gardens. The two largest (Pits A and B) contain numerous residual sherds of Roman and Anglo Saxon pottery and may have cut earlier Saxon pits.
