Monument record TR 34 SW 1637 - Roman pit in room 1A of Barrack block (B24) of the CLBR fort II, located at the Battle of Britain Homes site, Dover.
Summary
During extensive rescue excavations undertaken across Dover’s Town centre by Kent Archaeological Rescue Unit, the southern end of a substantial structure representing a barrack block (B24) was located at the Battle of Britain Homes site in 1971. Within room 1A of this building was a large rectangular pit; 1.9m long, 83cm wide and 83cm deep. It is a feature which is uncommon within roman buildings and its function is unclear, other wood lined examples have been used for storage.
