Monument record TR 36 NE 699 - Mid to Late iron age to mid-Roman activity, Lord of the Manor

Summary

Trial trenching in 2012 carried out by the Thanet Archaeological Society immediately west of Haine Road discovered evidence of mid to late iron age to mid Roman activity. This was in the form of ditches and hollows and was accompanied by rather limited pottery but also post-Roman pottery and prehistoric flints. These included a early neolitihcn leaf-shaped arrowhead, a late neolithic to early bronze age flint knifge and a complete early bronze age barbed and tanged arrowhead. Late aerial photographic survey in 2013 confirmed that the site was part of a large enclosure, most of which lay on the east side of Haine Road.
