Monument record TR 36 NE 715 - Possible boundary ditch, Lord of the Manor

Summary

A cropmark at Lord of the Manor showing a long linear ditch was observed during a 2013 aerial photo analysis. It was also excavated in 2013 during an archaeological evaluation. A sherd of later iron age pottery had been recovered from the same ditch in 2012 by the Isle of Thanet Archaeological Society.

Full Description

A cropmark at Lord of the Manor showing a long linear ditch was observed during a 2013 aerial photo analysis. It has been interpeted as possibly of iron age or Roman date.(1) It was also encountered during a 2013 trial trenching evaluation (2) A sherd of later iron age pottery had been recovered from the same ditch in 2012 by the Isle of Thanet Archaeological Society.

A ditch of uncertain date was visible as cropmarks in EARTH.GOOGLE.COM MAR-2022 (accessed 28-FEB-2024). This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (3)
