Full Description
A distinctive deposit of burnt clay was uncovered during an archaeological evaluation at 17 Biggin Street, Dover. The deposit was 0.17m thick; it appeared to be a dump rather than in situ material and may represent collapsed daub. It was situated beneath an 18th century cellar and therefore predates that. The layer above the deposit produced a single sherd of Prehistoric flint tempered ware of a probable Early Iron Age date together with a flint core while the layer beneath the burned deposit yielded three sherds of Roman pottery together with a probable middle Bronze Age sherd.
