Full Description

Palaeolithic handaxe found in garden at Mansion House, Swanscombe; held in Stopes' flint collection at NMW Cardiff, one of these is site no. 619 in his catalogue and six further are catalogue no. #3 (1). ). Site is described as "hop gardens at end and side of orchard next the Mansion House". Site listed in SRPP (2). The House and gardens have since been developed but its location is clearly visible on the southern side of Swanscombe Road on the historic OS maps of the area. (3-5)
