Full Description

During trenching associated with the construction of new nursery buildings in 2001, the remains of a Romano-British trackway were discovered running in a north-west / south-east direction. It consisted of gravel metalling cut by wheel ruts and was within a deliberately cut terrace. The metalled surface was sealed by a layer containing two Romano-British sherds and 11 other sherds and a horseshoe were found. Excavation a few metres to the west found the flint footings of a wall possibly representing part of the building which was fully exposed during later excavations and which formed part of p[roperty 7 of the roadside settlement.
