Monument record TR 36 SE 339 - Tunnel under Chilton Farmhouse, Ramsgate

Summary

A tunnel of uncertain purpose is located leading westwards from the cellar of Chilton Farmhouse. It is approximately 35m long and ends close to the garden wall of the farmhouse, although there is no exit. 19th and 20th century finds from the tunnel are thought to have been thrown down there.

Full Description

Tunnel leading from the cellar of Chilton Farmhouse heading westwards. The end of the tunnel finishes close to the garden wall of the farmhouse although there is no exit. It is approximately 100ft long and square in plan. Artifacts found in the tunnel date from the 19th and 20th century but seem to hae been throw down the tunnel. The purpose of the tunnel is unknown.
