Monument record TR 24 SW 26 - Reinden Wood (Hawkinge Airfield Dispersed Site)

Summary

This was the dispersed accommodation site for Hawkinge airfield (TR 23 NW 215) 1.5 km away to the south. It reflects a common practice of sighting domestic accommodation to off-site locations to avoid damage if the airfiled was attacked. The site consisted of a variety of temporay barrack huts, now gone, and other buildings connected by roads. The most obvious remains are the air raid shelters and gas decontamination building.
