Summary

The earthwork remains of a probable post medieval stock watering pond within St Mary's Marshes mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The pond appears as an elongated water-filled pond with up-cast material forming two long parallel banks on the northern and southern sides. This is a form of pond seen at several locations in the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. Also identified from aerial photographs but not seen during an assessment of the north Kent coast by Wessex Archaeology in 2002.

Full Description

Rectangular feature cut into salt marsh. Marked on 1st, 2nd or 3rd ed OS mapping (1-3). Photographs (1-3). Photographs (4-7). Site not identified during 2002 survey (8).

The earthwork remains of a probable post medieval stock watering pond seen within St Mary's Marshes at TQ 8009 7896. Measuring c. 25m 50m this pond was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The pond appears as an elongated water-filled pond with up-cast material forming two long parallel banks on the northern and southern sides. This is a form of pond seen at several locations in the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. (9)
