Monument record TQ 67 SE 104 - The earthwork remains of a Twentieth century golf course on Filborough Marshes are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1950

Summary

The earthwork remains of a Twentieth century golf course on Filborough Marshes are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1950. This golf course is depicted on the 1908 and 1923 Ordnance Survey maps but had gone out of use by 1938. The course was situated on a north-south strip of marshland at the northern edge of Chalk between Lower Higham Road and the Thames and Medway Canal. A clubhouse and an additional building were situated close to the road. These had been demolished by 1950 but the earthworks of bunkers survive. These were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
