Full Description
In 2005 an archaeological evaluation was carried out in advance of the construction of Dartford Football Ground and ancillary development. The most common features on the site were a number of circular and/or sub circular pits. Although many remain undated, nine features revealed pottery fragments dating to the period 50 BC - AD 100. On account of the similarity of the undated pits attributes such as form, depth etc, it is likely that all these features were contemporary. The pits may have acted as storage facilities or for the extraction of gravel. Activity was focused in the SW of the excavated site. These pits are limited by a NE - SW aligned ditch. These was also evidence for a field system although the pattern of which could not be established as many of the ditches were on different alignments [1]
