Full Description
Located to the south of the military complex (MWX43195) is located a cluster of WWII structures and gun pits, located beside Pegwell Bay and mapped from military aerial photographs taken in February 1941 [1].
The military features include two buildings (one rectangular and one L-shaped) measuring 10m by 4.5m and 6.5 by 5.5m. Beside these structures are two circular gun pits (one banked and one sandbagged) with internal ditches and short trenches leading eastwards from them. Their internal diameters measure around 4m. To the SW of these gun pits are two open rectangular structures measuring 4.4m by 4m and 7.6m by 5.5m. These may be ammunition storage shelters with blast walls or more gun emplacements.
All these features are linked with pathways and are enclosed with two lengths of barbed wire (MWX43203). They are first visible in February 1941 [1] and throughout the war, but are gone by March 2003 [2].
