Full Description
Large WWII military site comprising various typical military structures and defence features, located to the north of the entrance to the River Stour, Pegwell Bay and visible on military aerial photographs - see child records for more information.
Features include gun emplacement pits, military buildings, several lengths of slit trenching and barbed wire. The different parts of the site are linked via numerous roadways and paths.
The earliest photographs on which these features are first visible were taken in February 1941 [1]. Developments in the site are apparent in photographs taken in January 1942 [2], April 1944 [3] and January 1946 [4]. A majority of the features are gone by 1950 [6], but any remaining features are entirely gone by March 2003 [5].
