Full Description

Cluster of WWII buildings surrounded with a defensive slit trench and gun pit, located on the cliff overlooking the sea at Kingsgate, North Foreland. It is located within a larger military site (MWX43234), and has been mapped from military aerial photographs taken in January 1941 [1] and December 1941 [2]. All the features are gone by April 1946 [3].

The two Nissen huts are located beside one another and measure 11m by 4.5m and 6.6m by 5.6m. They are each surrounded with a bank of earth that has gaps at either end for the entrances into the structures. The bank is between 2m and 3m thick. Directly to the north of these buildings are three small rectangular structures measuring between 4.5m and 6.4m in length and are 3m wide. To the east of this cluster of buildings and situated on the cliff edge is an L-shaped slit trench measuring 15m and is predominantly surrounded by a c.2m thick bank. To the SW of the structures is a curving spiral sandbagged structure, measuring 8.3m by 5.3m and is likely to be a gun pit.
