Monument record MWX43329 - Possible flood bank, Fleming Valley, Ash Levels
Summary
A large bank is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photography. The bank is c.12m wide and visible for a total of c.350m, it initially runs parallel to a field drain then curves back on itself before stopping short of another field drain. The bank does not appear to be a part of the field system shown in this area on historic Ordnance Survey mapping. It is likely to be of medieval or earlier post-medieval date and may be a flood bank or related to the reclamation of land from the Wantsum Channel during these periods. A similar bank (MWX43330) lies 90m to the SE and is likely to be related to this feature.
