Full Description
An area of WWII ditched earthworks visible on aerial photography taken in 1942 and 1945 [1, 2], located in Dover. The function of these earthworks is unknown, but they lay 24m W of the Western Heights Citadel and likely had a military function. The site measured 39m x 24m and was comprised of three linear ditches which resembled open rectangles of 6.5m x 4.5m, two short linear ditches, one small circular ditch 1.5m in diameter and a larger roughly circular ditch 6m in diameter. The features were still visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2007 [3].
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photography exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
