Full Description
WWII site of unknown function, but likely military, visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 and 1946 [1 and 2], located in Walmer. This site was comprised of two roughly circular ditches measuring 17m and 15m in diameter, a large possible ditch measuring 60 x 28m which was mapped as an extent of area polygon, an area of small structures similar to those seen on the beach at Kingsdown (MWX43640) and a single line of enclosing barbed wire. The enclosing barbed wire measured 195 x 100m at maximum dimensions. The structures and the ditch mapped as extent of area were not visible on the 1942 photography. The site was not visible on Next Perspectives photography taken in 2003 [3].
This site was set in an area of WWII features and it was situated close to another WWII site enclosed by barbed wire (MWX43667).
A transcription of the features recorded from aerial photographs exists within a GIS layer held by this HER.
